Real cost savings and carbon reduction will be delivered immediately as a result of  the implementation of the new norms for plant and energy usage as identified in the Next energy survey, but entrenched and habitual practices on-site can all too easily erode any benefits in a short time.

Any number of factors can contribute to erosion of benefits, the most common being:

• Plant Settings override
• Override during maintenance
• Equipment failure
• Human intervention

 
To maintain the cost and carbon savings sustainably, smart meters are installed on site to allow Next ‘Insight’, a remote energy monitoring system that constantly monitors the plant operating settings as well as utilities consumption, to compare them against the optimised norms established in the energy survey. 

 

 

 

Communication from the smart meters on the plant is via Ethernet to Next’s global secure server centre based in Farnborough, Hampshire so installation is really straightforward.

Any deviations from norm are immediately alarmed by Next ‘Insight’ and reported for rectification locally on-site to ensure that important cost and CO2 savings are delivered consistently on a sustainable basis.

Next ‘Insight’ remote energy monitoring compares actual usage against norming profiles and this information is displayed in real time on Next’s interactive web-based energy management dashboards.
